Janelle Dethloff has been a resident of North Linden for 6 years and loves her neighborhood. She is a licensed social worker and a school based mental health therapist for Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus City Schools. She is passionate about using a strengths based approach to help students overcome non-academic barriers to learning. What she loves about her job is building relationships, listening to youth share their stories, encouraging them to identify hopes and dreams, and empowering young people to make positive changes in their lives. She looks forward to bringing these same skills to the commission as she listens to community members share their stories, their concerns, and their ideas.
Before she studied for her Master’s degree in Social Work at the Ohio State University, Janelle studied photography and graphic design at Indiana Wesleyan University. She has worked for several years as an art teacher, has worked with an art therapist at a school that served students with emotional and behavioral challenges, has worked as a tutor with Columbus State with ESL after school programs, and is an AmeriCorps alumni. She is passionate about advocating for social justice issues, addressing health disparities, and identifying community assets. She is excited about the opportunity to serve on the North Linden Area Commission and to help facilitate partnerships that connect community members to resources and initiatives in our city, especially those that promote mental wellness and increase community resiliency.
